I finally worked it out today. Now that I see how simple it is, I have no idea how and why I’d not figured out before. In my haste to add Ajax functionality to the new MovieDates site I simple used the responseText function in Javascript which allowed me to print out whatever was sent from the external file - I’ve now figured out how to use responseXML and it’s opening up a whole host of new opportunities, with the ability to send as much information as I like and use it when and where I like. Good stuff!

I currently find myself in a deep state of boredom. For those of you who find your work enjoyable, fulfilling and a pleasure to be doing, please let me know how! Over the last couple of days I’ve seriously considered looking for something else. The only thing that’s stopping me at present is the great number of perks I get here. The pay might be crap, and the job might be dull but I get a lot of holidays and the use of flexitime. If I could find something else which offered flexi-leave I would certainly consider applying. This job is dull. Very dull.
Next Tuesday I will have been working in my current post for a year. The one aspect which I feel was holding me back before I took up this position was the fact that I had no office experience. Now I do. Maybe that doesn’t make the world my oyster, but it certain gives me a number of new opportunities to explore. The very fact that every single person who went for promotion at my place was overlooked in order to bring in new people really says it all - there’s no real room to move upwards.
I want something challenging and I’d like to work somewhere with interesting people who have more exciting tales to tell than talking repeatedly about their grand-kids. Anybody want to hire me? Please?

I’ve just had a rather pleasant surprise whilst on Google. The last time I checked they were indexing around 120 of my pages - they now have 25,200! Fantastic! I’m still ranked ‘low’ on Google’s Pagerank, but before today I didn’t even realise I was on the board! This is very good news for my future inclusion in search results!

Am I disappointed with Pirates of the Caribbean 3? Yes, a little. Well, make that a lot. The story was too complex (just like Spider-Man 3), the film was too long (just like Spider-Man 3) and you could feel it was simply an exercise in making Jerry Bruckheimer even richer. It just wasn’t entertaining enough; it just bored me. Saying that, it did have it’s moments, and it has been the better sequel-sequel so for this year, but then it’s not had much to compete against!

Every single person in my line management are off today - so I thought I’d take it easy and do a two and a half hour day! I’m very glad I am, because I’ve been here an hour and I’ve completely run out of things to do! I do believe either I am very quick at what I do, or everyone else is very slow! They all seem to think work which only takes me ten minutes should last about a day!

How do you write about those days when nothing much is happening? Do I make something up? So I turn to the news to look for an interesting topic of conversation? Do I account, blow for blow, on how I walked to the kitchen area for a cuppa? Or do I write about me considering what I should write about when I don’t have much to say? I have yet to make up my mind…

I’ve just had a rather interesting conversation with someone in the Lands team. Apparently there may soon be a temporary position in his department at a higher level than I’m currently on, and he may well consider offering it to me. Naturally I said I would definitely be interested, and so, fingers crossed, I could be promoted - for the time being at least! The work sounds more interesting and would give me total responsibility for around 100 land cases.

Someone from the new team I’m sitting with brought some home-made cakes in today for charity. 50p a slice, and I have to say it was absolutely superb. The downside however was that she had adorned the table with RSPCA leaflets - it’s not exactly pleasant to be eating cake whilst staring at a picture of a dog dragging around a football-sized tumor. But then again, it was very good cake!

Wow, it’s been an interesting day today! I’ve spent most of it in our finance system receipting invoices and thoroughly confusing myself in a world of numbers that no mortal man could fathom! I, however, have someone managed to come out unscathed, yet still none-the-wiser!
